- off-leash area
Denver's leash law stops at the dog park gate, and these eleven fenced areas are the only places in the city where it does.
Every park on this page is on Denver Parks & Recreation's official list, and the rules are the same at each: dogs must be licensed in Denver, current on rabies, and spayed or neutered unless they hold a Denver Intact Permit, with no more than two dogs per handler and the leash on until you are inside. Railyard Dog Park is the downtown option, beside the Union Station rail lines in Riverfront Park. Carla Madison faces City Park from East Colfax, and Zeckendorf Plaza is a small Capitol Hill enclosure. Farther out, Berkeley Lake covers the northwest corner of the city, Lowry and Greenway serve the east side, Kennedy the southeast near Hampden, Sanderson Gulch the southwest, Barnum the west side and Green Valley Ranch East the neighbourhoods near the airport.
Outside these fences, DRMC §8-16 requires a leash everywhere off your own property, and off-leash dogs are the number one park complaint in Denver, and tickets run $80 to $300 from Animal Protection or $100 to $500 from park rangers. A Denver license costs $15 a year.
For a big, unfenced-feeling run with creek access, the state park off-leash area is a short drive away in Aurora.

Yes. Denver Parks & Recreation requires dogs in its off-leash parks to be licensed in Denver, current on rabies, and spayed or neutered or holding a Denver Intact Permit. Licenses cost $15 for one year, $40 for three or $150 for life and are sold online through PetData or at the Denver Animal Shelter.
Two per handler. That limit appears in the city's dog park rules alongside the license and rabies requirements. Dogs must stay leashed until they are inside the fenced area, and the same leash ordinance applies the moment you step back out.
Railyard Dog Park is the downtown choice, tucked beside the Union Station rail lines near 19th and Little Raven in Riverfront Park. Zeckendorf Plaza at 7th and Lincoln is a small Capitol Hill option, and Carla Madison on East Colfax sits across from City Park.
