Heaton Bay sits on the north shore of Dillon Reservoir along Dillon Dam Road between Frisco and Dillon, with 87 sites for tents, trailers and RVs, drinking water, vault toilets and some electric hookups for an extra fee. The Forest Service lists a $31 nightly fee for a single site and reservations through recreation.gov; walk-in tent sites are first-come. Shade is thin after beetle-kill tree removal, but the paved rec path runs right past the campground for a leashed morning walk. Body contact with the reservoir is prohibited, so this is not a swim-with-the-dog lake.
