Chatfield State Park's dog off-leash area is the southwest metro's big open-space run, with third-party guides putting it near 70 acres with two ponds where dogs can swim. Colorado Parks and Wildlife requires a Dog Off-Leash Pass, $3 for the day or $25 for the year covering a handler and up to three dogs, on top of the standard park entry fee, and the leash rule applies everywhere else in the park. The park is open 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Enter from Wadsworth or from the Roxborough Park Road entrance; Living the Dream's Sterling Ranch taproom and Coal Mine Ave Brewing are both nearby for afterward.
