Forsberg-Iron Spring Park Dog Park
14800 W Alameda Pkwy, Lakewood, CO 80228
City-designated off-leash dog park; all other Lakewood parks are leash-restricted.
- off-leash area
- fenced
Lakewood had one legal off-leash area for years; it now has three, and everywhere else in the city's parks is leash-only.
Forsberg-Iron Spring Park on West Alameda Parkway is the original and still the main event. It sits at the base of Green Mountain and doubles as a trailhead into William F. Hayden Park. The city's leash-law page still names it as the only exception to the rule that all parks are leash-restricted, but the parks department has since added two more. Mountair Park in the Two Creeks neighbourhood of east Lakewood gained an off-leash dog park in 2024, built by reusing the park's existing ballfield fencing. Wright Park, the ten-acre site near 6th Avenue and Union that opened in 2026, includes a small neighbourhood off-leash area.
Lakewood's leash law requires a leash, chain or cord of reasonable length held by a responsible person whenever a dog is off your property; a dog dragging its leash is a violation. Dog licenses are required through the Jefferson County program, $20 per dog at the City Clerk's office or online via Foothills Animal Shelter.
The Green Mountain trails above Forsberg are not off-leash: Jefferson County Open Space allows a leash of ten feet or less and fines violations $75, rising to $100 for a dog out of sight.
