Dog Boarding in Durango
Durango's two boarding kennels both sit north of town, one a full resort and one a family kennel with individual runs.
Durango Pet Resort on Design Center Road is a 7,500-square-foot boarding, daycare and grooming facility that describes itself as a Colorado state-accredited social boarding center for dogs and cats. Boarders spend most of the day in daycare play, and the vaccine rule is absolute: rabies, distemper/parvo and Bordetella required with no exceptions. Grooming at the on-site Durango Pet Spa can be booked for the end of a stay.
Puppy Love Grooming & Boarding Kennel on County Road 234 in the Animas Valley has been run by the same family since the mid-1990s according to the city's visitor listing. Each boarder gets an individual run with covered outdoor exercise, and grooming is offered. The listing carries a PACFA licensed tag.
Healthy Hounds & Fat Cats in Bodo Park, under daycare, also boards. Durango requires every city dog to be licensed through the La Plata County Humane Society, and kennels will want the rabies certificate regardless. Book early for Iron Horse weekend, the train season and the holidays.

Questions about dog boarding in Durango
What vaccines does Durango Pet Resort require?
Rabies, distemper/parvo and Bordetella, with no exceptions, for boarding and daycare. Many Colorado facilities also ask for canine influenza and leptospirosis; Healthy Hounds and Fat Cats in Bodo Park requires both. Bring printed records or have your vet send them ahead.
Is Puppy Love Kennel PACFA licensed?
Our record carries a PACFA licensed tag for Puppy Love Grooming and Boarding Kennel. Colorado requires the license for facilities boarding more than three pet animals at a time, and the Colorado Department of Agriculture publishes an Active Facility List for verification.
Do Durango kennels offer individual runs or group play?
Both styles exist. Puppy Love gives each boarder an individual run with covered outdoor exercise, which suits dogs that prefer their own space. Durango Pet Resort runs a social model where boarders spend most of the day in daycare play groups.
