Palmer Park is a 730-acre mesa in the middle of the city, and it offers two kinds of off-leash space. The fenced dog park occupies an old baseball field about a third of a mile in from the Maizeland Road entrance, with the usual city rules: leash until inside, handlers 16 or older, no more than three dogs per person, no prong collars, and vaccinated, licensed dogs. Up on the mesa, Yucca Flats is designated as a dog run, an unfenced area where dogs can be off leash while under voice control, with wide trails and views toward Pikes Peak. Outside those two zones, city code requires a leash on every Palmer Park trail.
