Summit County has two fenced town dog parks and a county-wide voice-control rule that does the rest of the work.
Carter Park Dog Park is Breckenridge's only official off-leash spot, four blocks east of Main Street at the south end of High Street. The town describes close to an acre of fenced space with a separate small-dog section, free and open around the clock. It was closed indefinitely in 2019 over fecal bacteria from owners not cleaning up, which is the clearest argument for carrying bags you will read today.
In Silverthorne, Maryland Creek Park, the town's newest and largest park on the north side off Highway 9, includes a dedicated fenced dog park alongside multi-use fields, disc golf and a social loop trail. Leashes are required elsewhere in the park.
The bigger story is the rule outside the fences. Breckenridge, Frisco, Dillon and Silverthorne all require leashes in town and on the Rec Path, but unincorporated Summit County allows dogs off leash if they respond to voice control and stay within ten feet, and the same goes for Forest Service land. The county was studying a six-foot leash rule in 2024; whether it passed is unconfirmed, so check signage. Dogs are banned from Cucumber Gulch Preserve.
