South Table Mountain's new T. rex Tooth Trail opened a gentle 1.5-mile soft-surface path past a WPA-built stone amphitheater, and linked with the Fossil, Old Quarry and Basalt Cap trails it makes a 3-mile loop with only about 150 feet of gain. It is the mellow sibling of North Table: fewer bikes, lower grades, the same wide views of Golden and the Coors complex below. Jeffco's leash rule (10 feet or less) applies, and the county is firm about staying on trail because the cliffs host nesting raptors. No shade, no water; a cool-morning walk for dogs of any age.
