Rattlesnake Gulch switchbacks up the south wall of Eldorado Canyon to the ruins of the old Crags Hotel and a Continental Divide overlook, 3.6 miles round trip with about 1,100 feet of climbing. Dogs get a creek dip at the bottom and shaded pine on the way up. This is a leash park, strictly enforced, and the trail is popular with climbers' dogs waiting out long routes. The hard part is getting in: weekend and holiday timed-entry from May through September, and a full-capacity gate much of the off-season. Go on a weekday or walk in from the Eldorado Springs lot (no reservation needed on foot). Summer heat on the south wall is real.
