Dog Boarding in Boulder — Free Quotes from Local Kennels

Describe your dog and your dates and we pass the request to independent boarding facilities in Boulder, from a farm property on Valmont Road to the camps near Boulder Junction. They reply with their own quotes.

Free, no obligation. We pass your request to independent local providers who reply directly.

Boulder kennels, one request

Boulder's boarding options are fewer than Denver's and they fill around the university calendar, so ask early and ask several.

  • Free. No fee to you, no booking through us.
  • Independent Boulder businesses. Family kennels and franchise camps located inside the city, not across the county line.
  • Licensing confirmed. The PACFA-licensed tag on a listing means we checked the Colorado Department of Agriculture record, not the website.

Screening comes first in Boulder

Cottonwood Kennels requires a trial day before any boarding stay. Bowhaus requires a vaccination record from a licensed vet at least 48 hours before arrival and will not take dogs over 12 months that are not spayed or neutered. Camp Bow Wow Boulder runs its standard interview. Plan a visit a week or more before the trip; a first-time boarding on the day you fly is the most common reason a Boulder request falls through.

Vaccines

Cottonwood posts rabies, distemper and Bordetella as its minimum. Expect DHPP across the board, and canine influenza and leptospirosis to be requested at the camp-style facilities where dogs mix all day. CDA's July 2025 PACFA rule update obliges licensed facilities to hold vaccination records before commingling, so emailing the vet printout ahead saves a trip. Lobby hours cluster around 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8 to 5 on weekends at The Pet Spot; camps run a little longer.

Choosing a kennel in Boulder

What is specific to boarding here.

Everything is east of 28th Street

Boulder's boarding sits in the industrial and farm belt on the east side. Cottonwood Kennels has boarded dogs for more than 50 years from a farm on Valmont Road, boards cats and small animals too, and gives dogs outdoor space to explore. Camp Bow Wow Boulder is on Pearl Street east of 30th, next to the Boulder Junction transit centre. The Pet Spot is a block off Pearl on Walnut, booking through a pet-parent portal. Bowhaus is further out in Gunbarrel on Odell Place, with more than 20 years in the business and a sister site in Erie. From downtown or the Hill, none is more than fifteen minutes.

The CU calendar sets the peaks

Thanksgiving week, the winter break from mid-December into January and spring break in March empty the university and fill the kennels, on top of the usual Christmas crunch. Ski weekends matter less here than in Denver because many Boulder owners take the dog along, but the Friday-evening drop-off rush on US-36 and the Diagonal is real. For a break-week stay, book a month out and expect a non-refundable deposit.

Licence, leash and the green tag

Boulder requires a city licence for every dog ($15 altered, $30 intact a year, through DocuPet), and Boulder Revised Code 6-1-16 keeps dogs leashed except in the dog parks and on OSMP trails posted for Voice and Sight, which needs its own tag. Kennels do not check either, but a kennel that knows Boulder will understand a trail-fit dog that is used to 90 miles of off-leash open space may need more exercise than a cabin provides; ask what the day looks like.

Fixed-dog rules are stricter here

Bowhaus is explicit that dogs over a year old must be spayed or neutered, and the group-play camps apply similar rules. If you have an intact dog, Cottonwood's individualised care or a kennel-style stay elsewhere is the realistic route. State it on the form so you only hear from facilities that will accept your dog.

Dog Boarding in Boulder: common questions

What does boarding cost in Boulder?

Boulder facilities publish few prices, so use the Front Range range: $55 to $65 a night for a standard kennel or cabin and $80 to $87 for a suite, plus a $5 to $6 nightly holiday surcharge at many facilities. The providers you are matched with will quote their own rate.

Do Boulder kennels require a trial day?

Cottonwood Kennels requires one before any boarding stay, Camp Bow Wow Boulder runs an interview, and Bowhaus needs vaccination records on file 48 hours ahead. Schedule the screening at least a week before you travel.

Can an intact dog board in Boulder?

It depends on the facility. Bowhaus requires dogs over 12 months to be spayed or neutered, and group-play camps generally agree. Kennel-style or individualised care is more likely to accept an intact dog; say so on the form.

When are Boulder kennels busiest?

Around the CU calendar: Thanksgiving week, the mid-December to January winter break and March spring break, plus the Christmas to New Year stretch. Book a month ahead for those dates and expect a deposit.

Are you one of the kennels?

No. Colorado Outdoor Dogs is an independent directory. We pass your request to Boulder boarding businesses, who reply directly and may pay us a referral fee if you book. Confirm licensing and prices with them.
