Ten minutes up Boulder Canyon, Betasso is a rolling ponderosa plateau with a 3.3-mile Canyon Loop that dips in and out of shaded gulches and opens to views down to the plains. Boulder County, unlike the city, is leash-only everywhere, so this is a good choice if you do not have a Voice & Sight tag or your dog is not ready for off-leash traffic. The loop is popular with mountain bikers riding one direction; Wednesdays and Saturdays are bike-free and noticeably more relaxed for dogs. Add the 2.4-mile Benjamin Loop for a longer day. No water on the trail; bring your own.
