James Ranch Grill is the outdoor burger-and-cheese grill at the working James Ranch in the Animas Valley, about ten miles north of Durango on Highway 550, open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 to 7:30. Seating is outdoors at picnic tables with views of the ranch pastures, and the market sells the ranch's raw-milk cheese and grass-fed beef. The ranch website does not mention a dog policy, so we have not confirmed whether dogs are allowed in the seating area; call before you drive out. It pairs well with a morning on the Animas Mountain trails.
