Cheyenne Mountain is the one Front Range state park where you need to read the map before unloading the dog: of 29 miles of trail, only the short Acorn Alley (ADA, crusher fines), Bobcat Way and Raccoon Ridge loops plus a marked stretch of Soaring Kestrel are open to dogs. Linked together they make an easy, mostly level two-mile ramble through scrub oak and meadow with the mountain looming above. Waste-bag dispensers sit along the way. It suits older dogs, short-legged breeds and anyone camping in the park who wants a legal evening walk. Rangers do ticket dogs on the main trail system.
