Dog Boarding in Lakewood — Free Quotes from Local Kennels

Lakewood is the west metro's on-ramp to the mountains, and its kennels fill on the same Friday afternoons the highway does. Tell us your dates and we pass the request to independent Lakewood boarding facilities, who reply with their own quotes.

What to expect from dog boarding in Lakewood

Both Lakewood facilities we list are franchise formats that bundle daycare into the night, so the nightly rate buys a full day of group play rather than a run with yard breaks. Published metro prices in October 2026:

Screening and vaccines

Camp Bow Wow Lakewood South requires a camper screening before a dog joins group care. Dogtopia of Lakewood runs boarding on top of daycare, so a new dog does a day in the playrooms first. Both ask for rabies, DHPP and Bordetella, and because every boarder spends the day in a group, canine influenza and leptospirosis are commonly requested too. Under the July 2025 PACFA rule update licensed facilities keep vaccination records on file before commingling, so send the vet printout ahead of the screening.

Hours

Dogtopia opens at 6:30 a.m. on weekdays for the 6th Avenue commute downtown, with Saturday hours as well. Camp Bow Wow runs the chain's long weekday hours and short Sunday and holiday windows. If you are driving back from the mountains on a Sunday, check the afternoon pickup slot before you book, or plan on a Monday collection.

Choosing a kennel in Lakewood

What is specific to boarding on the west side.

South Wadsworth or West Alameda Parkway

Camp Bow Wow Lakewood South is on South Wadsworth near Hampden, directly across from Landlocked Ales, which makes the drop-off and a patio stop a natural pairing. Boarders play all day in indoor and outdoor yards and sleep in individual cabins with a cot, fleece blanket and nightly treat, with Camper Cams running any time. Dogtopia of Lakewood is across town on West Alameda Parkway near Union, a short drive from the Forsberg dog park and the Green Mountain trails, with supervised playrooms streamed on webcams and spa baths added on.

Ski season is the peak

Lakewood sits where C-470 and US-6 feed I-70, so ski weekends from late December through March fill both facilities alongside the usual Thanksgiving and Christmas crunch. The pressure point is Friday afternoon drop-off and Sunday evening pickup. If your dog is coming to the mountains with you instead, the kennels still matter for the mid-week work days that follow; ask about daycare packages when they quote.

One legal off-leash area

Lakewood keeps every city park leash-restricted except the dog park at Forsberg Iron Spring Park on West Alameda Parkway, and the law requires a leash of reasonable length held by a responsible person; Jefferson County Open Space trails around Green Mountain and Bear Creek Lake allow 10 feet. That means a Lakewood dog's off-leash running mostly happens at Forsberg or in a kennel yard, which is an argument for the group-play formats here if your dog is social.

Licence and paperwork

Lakewood requires a dog licence through the Jefferson County programme run by Foothills Animal Shelter, $20 a dog, renewed annually at the City Clerk or online. Kennels do not check it, but a current rabies certificate is non-negotiable and the two facilities here both want proof of vaccination before a screening day. Note any breed, size or intact-dog detail on the form; each provider sets its own policy.

Addresses, hours and confirmed policies for both facilities are in the Lakewood dog boarding directory. The Lakewood city hub covers the leash law, Forsberg dog park and nearby trails.

Dog Boarding in Lakewood: common questions

How much does boarding cost in Lakewood?

Published metro rates in October 2026 run $55 to $65 a night for an individual cabin with daycare included and $80 to $87 for a suite, plus $5 to $6 a night over holidays. Dogtopia discounts boarding for enrolled daycare members. The providers you are matched with set their own prices.

Do both Lakewood kennels include daycare?

Yes. Camp Bow Wow Lakewood South and Dogtopia of Lakewood both run boarding as a night added to a full day of group play. If your dog does not do well in groups, say so on the form; a run-style kennel in a neighbouring city may suit better.

When do Lakewood kennels fill up?

Ski weekends from late December through March, on top of Thanksgiving, Christmas week and spring break. Friday drop-off and Sunday pickup slots go first, so book ahead and confirm the Sunday window.

What vaccines will I need?

Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella at a minimum, with canine influenza and leptospirosis commonly requested in group-play facilities. Licensed kennels keep records on file under the July 2025 PACFA update, so bring the vet printout to the screening.

Is Colorado Outdoor Dogs a boarding company?

No. We are an independent directory. We pass your request to Lakewood boarding businesses, who reply directly and may pay us a referral fee if you book. Verify licensing, policies and prices with the kennel.
