Mancos State Park sits on Jackson Gulch Reservoir about 30 miles west of Durango, a convenient camp for visiting Mesa Verde with a dog since the national park restricts them to roads and campgrounds. Colorado Parks and Wildlife lists 32 campsites, reserved through cpwshop.com or by phone, plus a daily vehicle pass on top of the camping fee. The park's rules say dogs must be on leash at all times, and the trail system around the reservoir is open to leashed dogs. Expect ponderosa shade and much cooler nights than Durango in summer.
