Purgatory Resort manages condos and lodge units at the ski area base 25 miles north of Durango on Highway 550, and its lodging pages say some units are pet-friendly. The resort does not publish a pet fee, a dog limit or which buildings qualify, so call the lodging line and have the agent put you in a pet-designated unit in writing. Purgatory's summer trail network and the Hermosa Creek area are right there, and Haviland Lake and the San Juan campgrounds are between the resort and town. Nightly rates vary widely by season.
