The 1.5-mile loop around Evergreen Lake is the town's social walk: a boardwalk through the wetland on the east end, a dirt path along the north shore and a stroll past the historic Lake House. It is flat, scenic and crowded, and the rules are specific: leashes everywhere (including on paddleboards), no dog swimming in the lake, and no dogs on the ice when skating opens. The creek below the dam is the consolation for water dogs. Great for seniors, puppies and visitors who want a mountain-town amble before a patio in downtown Evergreen. Elk graze the golf course across the road most mornings.
