Colorado licenses grooming outright. Under the Pet Animal Care and Facilities Act (PACFA), any permanent or mobile business where you pay to have a dog's coat, skin or nails cleaned, styled or maintained needs a Groomer Facility license from the Colorado Department of Agriculture; mobile vans and self-wash stations are covered, and a groomer renting a table in someone else's salon holds an Independent Contractor license, and both involve inspections and annual renewal. On our cards, PACFA licensed means we found the license in CDA records or the business states it; mobile and self-wash tags tell you the format.
The 2025 PACFA rule update added vaccination recordkeeping for grooming facilities so dogs are vaccinated before they share a waiting area or kennel. Salons ask for records up front; Bowhaus in Boulder wants them 48 hours ahead. Expect to show rabies at minimum and often Bordetella.
Beyond the license, ask the practical questions. How long will the dog be at the salon, and is it crated between stages? Are heated cage dryers used, and is a dog ever left unattended under one? If the coat is matted, is it shaved down or dematted by the hour? Will the same groomer see your dog each time? Mobile groomers sidestep several of those, since the dog is done in one session at your door, and generally charge more.
Published Front Range prices in October 2026 for a full groom ran roughly $60 to $85 for small dogs, $85 to $95 medium, $105 to $120 and up large, and $100 to $200 for doodles; bath-only $35 to $70 and nail trims around $25. Typical ranges, not quotes; every groomer sets its own. Several salons we list, including the Beauty Bark in Denver, offer walk-in nail trims.

Every card states its dog policy and whether a primary source confirmed it; unconfirmed listings say "call ahead". Businesses marked "Featured" pay a fee for placement. Payment does not affect what a listing says about its dog policy, and we do not rank Featured listings by quality. Add or correct a listing.

Yes. PACFA requires a Groomer Facility license for any salon, mobile van or self-wash where people pay for grooming, and an Independent Contractor license for groomers working inside another facility. The license involves an inspection and annual renewal. Look for the PACFA licensed tag on our cards, ask to see the license, or check the Colorado Department of Agriculture's Active Facility List.
Because the 2025 PACFA rule update added recordkeeping requirements for grooming facilities so that dogs are vaccinated before they share space. Most salons want proof of rabies, and many add Bordetella because dogs wait in kennels near each other. Send the records when you book; some salons, like Bowhaus in Boulder, want them 48 hours ahead.
It is different. A mobile groomer works on one dog at a time at your home, so there is no waiting in a kennel and no shared air with other dogs, which suits anxious and older dogs. Salons offer more services, walk-in nail trims and usually lower prices. Both need the same PACFA license. The mobile tag on our cards marks the vans.
It depends on the coat, but Colorado adds two seasonal reasons: foxtails and grass awns from early summer into fall lodge in long paw and ear fur, so trimming those areas helps, and snow balls up between the toes in winter. Many owners book a paw and sanitary trim between full grooms. Ask your groomer; for skin problems, ask your vet.
One short form; independent Colorado boarders, daycares, groomers and trainers reply directly.
