Horsetooth Reservoir is the long lake in the hogbacks just west of Fort Collins, at 5,420 feet, and Larimer County runs two campgrounds on it, South Bay near the swim beach and group pavilion and Inlet Bay next to the marina. The park is open year round, entrance and camping permits are required, and reservations go through the county's camping site. The posted regulations say dogs must be on a leash no longer than 10 feet at all times and are not allowed at the swim beaches, which leaves plenty of shoreline, the trails of adjoining Horsetooth Mountain Open Space and the campground loops. The Horsetooth Area Information Center in South Bay handles questions.
