Choosing a groomer in Denver
Neighbourhood salons cluster in the central city. Urban Dogg runs two shops, one on East 19th Avenue in Uptown and one on South Downing a block from Washington Park; both are PACFA licensed, groom dogs and cats by appointment and call same-day appointments a specialty. The Beauty Bark in Park Hill, attached to Ciji’s Natural Pet Supplies on Kearney Street, takes walk-in nail trims for $20 in the mornings and is accepting new clients.
Mobile vans cover most of the city. Barkbus lists Cherry Creek, Wash Park, Highland, LoHi, Park Hill, Central Park, Sloan’s Lake and Capitol Hill among its Denver neighbourhoods and grooms one dog at a time with no cages; Zoomin Groomin’s Central Denver franchise covers zip codes 80202 through 80206, 80209, 80211, 80212, 80216, 80218 and 80223. Both are PACFA licensed as mobile groomers. Expect roughly $20 to $40 above salon prices and book further ahead.
Self-wash is the cheap fix after a muddy weekend. Paws ’n’ Play in Central Park, near 56th Avenue, supplies shampoo, towels, dryers and brushes at its PACFA-licensed self-serve stations; call ahead for a tub, and the eleventh wash is free. It is a short drive from the Greenway Dog Park and the Westerly Creek trails.
Denver specifics. Dogs over six months must be licensed with Denver Animal Protection, and some facility-based salons ask to see the tag. From June through October ask for a foxtail check of paws, ears and armpits with every groom; the dry grass along the South Platte and Cherry Creek trails is where awns get picked up. In winter, a paw-pad trim and shorter nails make icy sidewalks easier.
