Dog policy
Low-cost, owner-only classes taught by shelter behavior specialists in a pet-free setting; dogs with higher reactivity are directed to the behavior helpline first.

Humane Colorado, formerly the Dumb Friends League, runs community pet classes at its Leslie A. Malone Center on South Quebec Street in southeast Denver. The current offering is Mind Your Manners: Loose Leash Walking, a 90-minute, $25 session where a behavior specialist teaches clicker-training basics and how to make leashing a positive experience; participants take home a clicker. These are leave-your-dog-at-home classes held in a pet-free room, designed for normal to moderate behavior, and the organization asks owners of highly reactive dogs to book its Dog Behavior Helpline first. Dates are posted on the site a few months out. A good low-cost starting point before investing in a private trainer.
